You’ve probably heard at least a few of the many superstitions that revolve around black cats. A black cat crossing your path is bad luck, witches kept black cats as their pets due to their ability to do magic, etc. But not everybody views black cats as unlucky. In some parts of the world, black cats are revered because they bring good luck.

Dogs have individual personalities and react in different ways to stress and pain. Some dogs will let you know right away that they’re hurting while others will do everything in their power to mask discomfort. In general, however, dogs have a fairly high tolerance to pain. By the time you see clear signs of stress, your pet may have been uncomfortable for quite a while.

Cats are well-known for hiding obvious signs of pain or illness. It’s important to be vigilant in watching for any minor changes in their behavior in order to catch any problems early on. (I recently missed the early signs of arthritis pain in my own cat, Peanut Butter, which resulted in an ER trip for me and a full checkup at the veterinarian’s office for my cat.)

The short answer to this question is, “Yes.” But many people wonder why cat bites are so dangerous. Others swear that their cat would never bite them, so we’re telling our own story about Peanut Butter, our senior cat of 17 years, who bit me recently.
Peanut Butter had been moodier lately, but we put that down to age. Last week, she was sitting next to me when I reached over to stroke her and she suddenly lashed out.

It’s happened to a lot of us. You’re driving home from work and see an obviously lost pet pacing back and forth by the side of the road. Or a stray cat keeps finding his way into your garage at night. If you’ve come across an animal that’s clearly a stray, your first thought is probably that he’s a lost pet or has been abandoned.

Dog parks are popping up all over the place these days. Every major city has at least one, and hundreds of towns of all sizes now have parks where dogs are free to roam off leash. These grassy confines usually offer amenities such as toys, obstacle courses, fresh drinking water and areas reserved specifically for pets to “do their business.” There are also strict rules about how canines and humans alike should behave at dog parks.
