Cat myths have been around for centuries, with some of them persisting into the present day while others have fallen by the wayside. Do you know which cat myths are misconceptions and which are based on fact?
Myth #1: You Can’t Train Cats

I took Soldier to see the veterinarian earlier this week because, right on cue, his seasonal pet allergies have flared up. Every spring and fall like clockwork, he begins obsessively scratching himself and rubbing his ears on the carpeting. It takes just a day or two for the angry, red rash to appear on his belly and groin area. Within that same amount of time, Soldier usually starts chewing his feet, often until they are raw and bloodied.

With floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes causing upheaval across the country and triggering huge losses, it can be depressing to visit Facebook these days. We hear about pets left behind by their owners, evacuation shelters that are overloaded with animals and other disheartening stories. For many people, tomorrow is a bittersweet day – it’s Pet Memorial Sunday in the United States, a day to remember the animal companions who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge to join other pets waiting patiently for the day when they will see their families again. While surfing Kickstarter recently, I came across a new concept in leashing and collaring your dog. The title reads, “MAGDOG: Magnetic Dog Collar, Harness and Leash + ID System. Last week I posted that our cat, Peanut Butter, had suddenly gone blind. It was traumatic for the cat and worrisome for the rest of the family. At that time, the vet stressed that her vision might not return, so we prepared accordingly. But I’m excited to say that the blood pressure medicine seems to be helping! She is still obviously visually challenged, but she’s seeing some out of her left eye.

Sudden blindness in cats isn’t as unusual as you would think. Last night my husband and I realized that Peanut Butter had gone blind. If I get emotional telling you this story, you’ll have to bear with me, because I’m not talking about hypotheticals. For the past several weeks, we’ve had Peanut Butter on an oral pain medication to help her cope with the pain of advanced arthritis.
