I recently met a wonderful woman whose husband sprayed their “stinky” dog with an odor eliminator spray. I am so glad that she shared this valuable information because I was able to suggest a much happier and healthier alternative for their ‘fur ball of stinky love!’ Just think: If her hubby sprayed their ‘fur babe’ with odor eliminator spray, that means that many others out there are participating in similar acts, right? Yet, if her husband and many others knew the harsh chemicals that were used in making most odor eliminator sprays, plug-ins, candles, and carpet fresheners, I am sure they would think again before masking their pets’ unattractive aroma! Ingredients such as BHT, acetaldehyde, benzene, toluene, and parabens are listed as well as “fragrance,” whose contents are legally permitted to remain undisclosed due to the protection of a company’s ‘recipe’ under trademark laws. So, what are we really emitting into the atmosphere in our homes and breathing in on a daily basis? Could our canine companions be scratching their belly areas raw due to these harsh chemicals they are exposed to directly and indirectly on a daily basis, both in the air and on our floors and carpets?
Thankfully, I have discovered a 100% pure and natural alternative for my West Highland White Terrier, Chanel. She does not have to emulate Charles Schulz’s ‘Pig Pen’ from his Charlie Brown set of characters any longer! Instead, I chose to utilize Young Living Essential Oil’s Purification Oil, a blend of six essential oils, as her odor eliminator. Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Myrtle, and Tea Tree oils work together to create a refreshing, bright scent that keeps you, your family, and your doggy, happy and comfortable. My quick and easy homemade air freshener recipe is: 20 drops of Purification Oil dropped into 16 ounces of filtered water placed into a 16-ounce glass (not plastic as it will leech) spray bottle. I spray my rooms, carpets, human beds, Chanel’s plethora of pillow-soft beds found in every room in our household, and Chanel herself when needed, misting her body from six inches away while avoiding direct contact with her inner eyes, inner ears, and inner mouth.
The amount of oil drops in your recipe will also depend on the weight of your pooch. For a small dog, I would go with 10 drops, and for a big dog, I would recommend 40 drops of this specific oil mixed into the two cups of filtered water, again depending on the size and weight of my dog, and the water itself serves as a form of dilution for those potent drops of pure oil as well. The Young Living oils are potent purity so you do not need as much as you are used to using with a synthetic room spray; that 15ml bottle of pure Purification Oil will last you at least a season or longer.
Isn’t it time that you ditch overpowering and harsh chemical-based odor eliminators for your dog and your home, and try a safe, 100% natural alternative like Young Living’s pure and therapeutic-grade Purification Essential Oil? This way, you will not have to “Remove clothing…Wash area with water for 15-20 minutes…Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment advice,” when in contact with any of those harsh chemicals. And, if you think the synthetic chemicals may bother you at your size and weight, just imagine what it is doing to your tail-wager at a smaller size and weight?” I know that there is conflicting research out there saying that dogs can read, but until that debate is settled, if you are not reading EVERY INGREDIENTS LABEL used in your home, you are not your dog’s advocate. Doesn’t man’s best friend deserve that much?
